If I’m not working, eating or sleeping – I’m dancing.
I’ve been a dancer my whole life. I began in ballet, tap, and jazz before expanding my repertoire with modern, lyrical, and hip-hop. I did some ballet, tap and modern in college, but found my current calling with the SU ballroom and swing teams.
Ever since then, ballroom and swing have taken over my life. I’m more than okay with that.
Last April was the SU Ballroom team’s first ever showcase. The goal was to bring together different communities of local dancers (swing, ballroom, tango, etc.) for a night of performances and social dancing. So that’s what we did.
My job was to spread the word about the event. We wanted to reach a larger audience than other school dance groups – we wanted to reach the entire Syracuse community. I knew that flyers around campus simply wouldn’t cut it. So, I started networking and reaching out to local media stations. By the time the showcase rolled around, we had coverage in Syracuse.com, the Post-Standard newspaper, several Cumulus Media radio stations (including an interview on 93Q’s “Ted and Amy in the Morning” show) and thenewshouse.com.
I produced the print collateral (posters and programs – photos coming soon!) for the show, too.
